Pat Hudacsko

yoga teacher for 11 years

What I love most about my classes is the before and after difference. Most people come into the class in some way stressed and leave with an entirely different outlook on their day. My hope is that eventually the feeling of peace with which students leave class will expand past the immediate future and be life changing.

My yoga journey began later in life as a form of exercise. I learned quickly that the physical benefits of a yoga practice are only a very small part of what yoga is, that yoga is a practice that reaches into every aspect of our humanity. I discovered Yin yoga after years of practicing and becoming certified to teach Hatha yoga. All forms of yoga teach us something but I resonated deeply with the practice of Yin.

Sarah Powers, one of my Yin Yoga teachers, has said of the practice "it's like taking a shower on the inside." My interpretation is that it's like clearing cobwebs, reaching deeply into corners, perhaps finding more clarity among the chaos of our day to day lives. In addition, staying in the Yin shapes for three to five minutes strengthens us mentally since the shapes often cause discomfort. Yin teaches us to be comfortable with discomfort, which is a very transferable skill. Yin benefits the practitioner physically, mentally and emotionally and will affect each of us differently.
